What should I expect during the video recording?
1
We are dedicated to making your recording session an enjoyable experience!
At the start of your session, we’ll briefly go over the use of the teleprompter and allow you some time to practice. During this process, we’ll adjust the scrolling speed and text size of your script to meet your needs and comfort level. We will then attach your microphone, set audio levels, and adjust the lighting as needed.
Once we’re ready, and you’re comfortable, we’ll begin recording.
2
During the recording process the production team will monitor the video and audio signal and check the scripts for accuracy. If for any reason there is an issue with a take, we’ll ask you to redo it.
We recommend standing for your videos. However, a stool will be provided if you prefer to sit. We will periodically ask if you would like to take a break and you can at any time ask to do so. For your convenience, bottled water will be provided.
Please let us know if there is anything we can do to make you feel more comfortable!
How should I prepare for the video recording?
1
Practice reading your scripts out loud in a conversational tone and speed. Doing so will also help refamiliarize yourself with the content especially if it has been a while since your scripts were created.
2
It may also reveal words or phrases that don’t translate well or easily “roll of the tongue”. Oftentimes a quick change of a word or phrase will create a better flow and understanding.
Do I have to memorize what I will say for the shoot day?
1
No, we will provide a teleprompter that displays your script.
2
You will be able to control the teleprompter with a remote that allows for play/pause, +/- speed, and +/- text size.
How long will it take to record all of my videos?
1
It depends on the content, the length of the scripts, whether retakes are needed, and your personal preference.
2
Some instructors find that they can record all their videos in one day, typically, a four to six-hour recording session (with breaks as needed). Other instructors may need or prefer to spread out their recordings over two recording session days.
What should I wear for my lecture recording session?
1
Here are some tips for what to wear:
- Avoid wearing clothing with tight patterns like herringbone or pinstripes and also large patterns and geometric shapes.
- Do not wear white and other bright fabric (especially if you have dark skin).Try to steer clear of black. Vivid reds and yellows can also be problematic.
- If you are doing a Lightboard video, do not wear black.
2
- If you are doing green screen, do not wear green.
- Avoid glasses when practical, especially ones with shiny frames.
- Do not wear highly reflective and noisy jewelry.
- Wearing makeup is a good thing, but avoid vivid red lipstick or lip gloss. Stick to softer tones.
- Make sure a lapel microphone and a transmitter can be attached to your clothing.
- Be certain your makeup, wardrobe and hair are consistent with your message.
If I need to produce a how-to screencast video for my course, what resolution should I use?
1
Please use the highest resolution available.
2
Ultra HD (4K) (3840 x 2160) would be the best option as it would allow for cropping and zooming in on the image if needed. Otherwise, Full HD (1920 x 1080) will suffice.
What types of videos can be recorded?
1
Presently, we are offering three options to record videos.
2
- Basic/standard background
- Green screen background
- Lightboard
If I use powerpoint, what size should my slides be and how do I change the size?
1
Slides should be sized to 16:9 by selecting File > Page Set-up > select the drop-down for Size >to On-screen Show (16:9).
Will the shoot really take a full day?
1
The time will depend on the length of content and how well the delivery of lines are executed, avoiding retakes.
2
Shooting could end up being as little as 3 hours, or take an additional day. A lunch break will be taken mid day if we run that long.
Do I need to be on camera if I am serving as a subject matter expert and not the instructor for the course I am developing?
1
Yes, we recommend that you at a minimum appear on screen at the beginning and the end of micro-lecture videos to add instructor presence and foster a connection with students.
