Cristine Busser joined the Studio in 2024, transitioning from an Associate Professor role at the University of Central Arkansas (UCA). New to the position, she looks forward to collaborating with UIC faculty to develop engaging, high-impact online courses. She gets especially excited about course design that centers on metacognition, diverse learning preferences, and peer-to-peer connections.
Prior to joining UIC, Cristine taught in the Writing, Rhetoric, & Information Design program at UCA, where she also oversaw the university’s first-year writing program. During her time at UCA, she collaborated with the Center for Excellence in Teaching & Academic Leadership, serving as an Instructional Consultant and regularly leading faculty workshops. Before then, she was an Associate Director of Georgia State University’s Writing Studio while pursuing her Ph.D. in English (Rhetoric & Composition). She received her M.A. in Writing from Nova Southeastern University and a B.A. in English (Rhetoric & Composition) from Florida Atlantic University. Her research considers micro- and macro-strategies for inclusively supporting student retention, and her pedagogical passions include community engagement, project-based learning, and equitable assessments.
Cristine enjoys jigsaw puzzles, Miami Heat basketball, and slow walks around Chicago with her elderly pup.
