Whether you have just begun to explore generative AI tools or are already deeply engaged with the resources in the UIC Microsoft Teams Channel for AI in Teaching and Learning, you are likely aware of the many ways that generative AI is impacting teaching and learning. In response to this changing education landscape, we are excited to announce the Instructional Innovations Design Lab for AI in Teaching and Learning, set to launch in Spring 2024. This collaborative workshop will offer a unique platform for instructors, instructional designers, and various academic stakeholders to collaboratively explore the ways generative AI technologies can support student learning and engagement at UIC.
The design lab will feature two 90-minute online sessions on the following dates:
- Wednesday, February 28, 2024 from 10:30 AM – 12:00 NOON CT
- Wednesday, March 13, 2024 from 10:30 AM – 12:00 NOON CT
At the first session, participants will engage in collective design thinking exercises in order to gain perspective and define an AI-related problem. Between sessions, participants will generate ideas for learning activities, instructional strategies, or assessments that feature generative AI. At the second session, participants will present a draft of their idea and provide structured feedback to their colleagues. Participants are expected to attend both sessions.
This initiative invites participants to leverage generative AI tools to refresh courses, foster critical thinking, and equip students for an AI-infused future. Whether you are a curious novice or an advanced practitioner, your experience and ideas can help to shape the ways generative AI tools support teaching and learning at UIC. You can learn more about this program by visiting the Instructional Innovations Design Lab for AI in Teaching and Learning event page on the IDMPS website. Register for this Spring 2024 cohort by February 1, 2024.
