Learn how to use the Lightboard
1
Note the following when preparing for and teaching with the Lightboard:
- Similar to using a whiteboard while teaching, an instructor writes on a Lightboard (a transparent glass board) with bright colors while facing the camera. The student will see content appearing in front of or to the side of the instructor.
- Prepare beforehand by outlining lecture content and rehearsing.
- Consider visual hierarchies; use different colors, underlining, circling, or annotating to emphasize important points.
- Practice drawing with different colors on a Lightboard. Contact the studio to book a practice session.
2
- Wear appropriate clothing such as solid colors or tops with simple patterns. Wear darker colors to help the bright fluorescent ink to stand out.
- Anticipate a boundary of video frame edges, and avoid writing beyond this perimeter.
- Stand to the side: While explaining, stand to the side of the content to maintain readability.
- Encourage active learning: Break your content into sections and encourage students to engage in a brief activity (e.g., answer a question, practice, or solve a partial worked example) between sections.

Expanded Technologies and Resources at The Studio
1
We will retain the technologies and resources presently available at The Studio and expand upon them in our new space. A few of the additions include:
- Larger flexible studio space to accommodate 3-4 set-ups, including lectures, demonstrations, and podcast discussions. This space will be fitted with a cyclorama (curved wall-backdrop), teleprompters, Lightboard, and multi-camera setups.
- A self-serve studio space that allows faculty to record their presentations or demonstrations with user-friendly presets of professional backdrops, lighting, and microphone setups. Studio staff will be available to train and support.
2
- A “green room” to provide a private, comfortable space for faculty to prepare for their recording session. Faculty can practice, change clothing, and apply makeup in this space.
- Two conference rooms will accommodate collaborative meetings. Faculty and studio staff can brainstorm, design, and develop project possibilities through these rooms, both in person and remotely.
